Tournament Formats & Fees
QUADS FORMAT
A mini, three-round tournament where four players of similar skill level play a round-robin format (each plays the other three once) for a balanced competition.
- • Open to all players who want a longer time control.
- • No byes are allowed.
- • No computers; practice for serious tournament play.
Registration & Fees
$30 Cash onsite only. No advanced registration.
Registration: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM. (Players after 9 AM may not be paired for Round 1).
Prizes
The winner of each Quad will receive $100 Cash.
If we run a HEX for play involved, 1st Place $100, 2nd Place $50.
Equipment & Time Control
Time Control: G/85;d5 (85 mins + 5 sec delay)
Players must provide their own equipment.
SCHOLASTIC SWISS FORMAT
A Swiss-system is a non-elimination tournament format where players compete in a set number of rounds, playing opponents with similar scores. Everyone plays in every round (if possible). It balances fairness by pairing winners with winners and losers with losers.
- • 4 Sections based on rating: K-3 U500, K-6 U800, K-8 U1200, K-12 Open.
- • One half-point bye allowed if requested before round 2.
Registration & Fees
$10 Online at Chessroster.com by the Friday before event.
Increases to $25 after 9 PM Friday, then onsite only.
Check-in: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Awards
Individual: 1st through 3rd place in all 4 sections.
Team: 1st and 2nd place Teams across all 4 sections.
Equipment & Time Control
Time Control: G/40;d5 (40 mins + 5 sec delay)
Equipment: We provide chess sets and clocks for the Swiss.
Team Definitions
Teams can be made up of either a school or club. Players on a team can compete across all sections of the tournament for trophies.
School Teams
Students on a single campus under one principal.
Club Teams
Must meet for at least 8 months/year and players must have attended 6 regularly scheduled meetings of the club in the previous 3 months.

Chess Notation
All players competing must take chess notation. Players are permitted to bring and use their own Scorebooks and pencils if they own them. Scoresheets and pencils will be provided.
Players are encouraged to learn and practice chess notation before entering an Over-The-Board tournament.
